GARDEN OF HOPE

Garden of Hope

The Shands Cancer Hospital at UF will soon introduce the Garden of Hope to our community. This garden will be a place for patients and their loved ones, employees, friends and community residents to find solace and serenity. The garden is a result of a vision shared by Shands HealthCare and the community in which it resides. The concept involves surrounding patients, families and our neighbors with an atmosphere of healing for the body, mind and spirit.

The Garden of Hope is symbolic of the thoughtful quality of care patients will receive at the Shands Cancer Hospital at UF. Located on the grounds of the cancer hospital, the garden will provide relief to the senses through its use of water, sunlight and natural foliage. As visitors stroll down its intertwining pathways past gardens, trees and a pond, they will have time to pause, reflect and heal.

Contributions will include memorials and tribute such as pavers, trees and benches. Gifts to the garden can also be made through garden parties. Gainesville community leaders will host "garden parties" this spring as part of the Raising Hope campaign to bring awareness to the plans for the garden and give residents a chance to donate to this new community asset.

Marilyn Tubb, a former Shands HealthCare employee for more than 25 years, and Sam Holloway, a Gainesville businessman, are chairing the community campaign. Mary and Mark Wise, are the honorary campaign chairs.
